Description

Duesenberg DJP-SP Starplayer Surf Green – Japan Market Limited Model – Excellent A rare opportunity to own one of the more unusual Duesenberg Starplayer variants: the DJP-SP Starplayer in Surf Green, originally produced for the Japanese market. This is not the standard Starplayer TV most buyers are familiar with. The DJP-SP was a distinct Japan-market configuration with its own combination of appointments, making surviving examples particularly interesting to collectors and Duesenberg enthusiasts. The Surf Green finish is a major part of the appeal. It gives the guitar a striking retro look that works beautifully with the nickel hardware, cream binding, white control plate and unmistakable Duesenberg Art Deco styling. It is visually distinctive without being overdone and is far less commonly encountered than the usual Starplayer finishes. The semi-hollow body with its single F-hole gives the guitar an open, lively acoustic character while retaining the focus and sustain needed for amplified playing. It features dual Duesenberg pickups with a wide tonal range. The pickups deliver excellent clarity, warmth and definition, covering everything from articulate cleans and blues tones to rock, alternative, country and overdriven lead work. A push/pull coil-tap function expands the available sounds further, adding brighter and more cutting textures alongside the fuller humbucker tones. The Duesenberg vibrato system has some oxidation. I was able to take some off with a buffing compound and a rag. I believe it just needs a good buffing. It operates smoothly and adds expressive capability while maintaining the vintage-inspired appearance that makes these guitars so recognizable. Other features include: Rare DJP-SP Japan-market Starplayer Surf Green finish Semi-hollow body with single F-hole Set maple neck Rosewood fingerboard 25.5” scale length Dual Duesenberg pickups Push/pull coil tap Three-way pickup selector Master volume and master tone controls Duesenberg vibrato system Nickel hardware Bound body and neck Classic Art Deco Duesenberg styling This example is in Excellent condition and presents extremely well. These Japan-market DJP-SP models do not appear often, which makes this an especially appealing piece for a collector looking for a Duesenberg outside the usual production lineup. Please zoom in closely on all photos, as they are part of the description and show the guitar’s condition, finish, hardware and details clearly. As with any guitar shipped to a new owner, I recommend having it set up to fit your individual playing taste and preferences once received. Ships carefully packed and fully insured to the lower 48 United States only.
