Description
No trades. Here we have a 2000 Gibson Les Paul Classic Plus in Wine Red with a stunning factory AAA flame top. This model comes from the final stretch of Gibson’s revered “good wood” era and stands as a fantastic example of the quality and tone that era is known for. The Plus designation brings a beautifully figured flame maple cap that lights up under stage or studio lights, with an elegant mix of horizontal and diagonal grain. The guitar is largely original, with just a few minor changes: a bridge pickup swap and a like-for-like control knob replacement. It’s been a one-owner instrument, used primarily in a smoke-free studio here in Los Angeles. Included is a vintage Gibson hardshell case—iconic in its own right and a perfect match for this guitar’s vibe. The neck features Gibson’s 60s Slim Taper profile with a dark rosewood board. It's fast, comfortable, and plays beautifully. It’s just been fully serviced and set up for smooth low action with 10–46 strings. The frets show only minor wear with some light crowning but have been dressed and polished. The truss rod is responsive, and the nut is dialed in. There’s a small indent on the back of the neck around frets 10–14, but nothing that affects playability. Neck specs: Nut Width: 1.69" (43mm) Neck Profile: 60's Slim Taper Fingerboard Radius: 12" Neck Thickness at 1st Fret: ~0.800" Neck Thickness at 12th Fret: ~0.875" The guitar weighs in at a solid 9.6 lbs and is well-balanced. The top is exceptionally figured—tight AAA flame across the full cap that reacts dynamically under light. The Wine Red finish is rich and classy, with a bit of edge fading from honest play use that only adds to its vibe. Cosmetically, the guitar is in great condition with some natural wear: finish swirling and minor scratches, a little wear near the volume knob area, and a small patch of arm rub on the top. The pickguard has a crack at the top screw and has lost its gold 1960 decal (inlay still visible). The headstock shows some light scratches and small marks, but nothing major. The control knobs are a like-for-like replacement in the 60s-style top hat design. The original speed knobs are included—they still work fine but have the typical internal stress cracks seen on vintage plastics. The bridge pickup has been upgraded to a 1990s DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone, which gives the guitar a punchier, more responsive sound. The original bridge pickup is not included, but everything else in the electronics cavity is factory stock—pots, caps, and the neck pickup. Gibson case is great with no issues to be found. This Classic Plus plays beautifully and sounds killer. Set up with 10's she is super low lose and fast to play, just how we like em! The combination of the lively mahogany body, AAA flamed maple cap, and upgraded bridge pickup gives it great bite, warmth, and sustain. It’s the kind of Les Paul that feels alive in your hands. Rings like a bell unplugged and screams plugged in. No trades.
