This is a beautiful, unique for its kind, early American school desk with a ton of character, which is why it is priced as it is. It would be incredibly sad to see this lost in a landfill instead of repurposed to the point that its antique character is lost. The beauty of this desk is that it is a statement to our history and at the same time can still be functional for use in the 21st century (such as charging electronics out of sight via the inkwell which opens to a storage cubby below). Unlike many of its kind, this desk is in wonderful shape, has very solid 2-tone wood that does not take much maintenance, gorgeous wrought iron scroll-work legs (seen in the shadow on the floor in the one of the pics), many carvings of student names on the desk (an example of which is shown in the pics) and more. This would easily fit into one of those unused corners and the possibilities for repurposing its use all the while maintaining its beauty are many!! For example, the desk would make a great gift for a little one who loves imaginary play all the while teaching a child our history in a fun way rather than in a book. It could be used as a plant stand AND at the same time a hidden place to recharge electronics. If you are a teacher - I recognize and appreciate all that you do. For this reason, I will gladly offer this at a substantial discount. Although I am not sure of the feasibility, this desk would be a great addition to a school/classroom/library to show and teach American history.
