Burkina Faso, Bobo Peoples, Carved Wood Helmet Mask: Antelope (Nyanga), Ca. Early to Mid 20th C Had an ::https://offerup.com/redirect/?o=My5vbmxpbmU= estimate probably 15 or 20 years ago for Estimate: $300 - $700 Large helmet mask, possibly carved from a single circular tree trunk. This mask resembles the hippotrague, a species of antelope native to West Africa, distinctive through its ringed horns that curve backwards and a sloping snout. The mask is decorated with triangles in white h, black, and red pigment. The mouth and eyes are also outlined in white pigment. Holes along opening of mask, possibly for attachments now lost or to attach mask to a costume.
