Description

Offered is a rare pair of antique Russian-made candle holders, crafted in 1888, as indicated by the markings on the base. The holders bear Cyrillic inscriptions: "Sivoev" (likely the maker’s name), "Valozhyn" (a city in modern-day Belarus, then part of the Russian Empire), and "Mockva" (Moscow), suggesting they were produced by the Sivoev workshop, possibly in Valozhyn, and distributed through Moscow. Local pick-up in Dana Point, CA; cash or Zelle only! Happy to answer any questions. Reasonable offers welcomed! Standing exactly 19 inches tall (including the glass shades), these holders feature solid brass bases with tall, baluster-shaped stems and round, tiered feet, topped with Bohemian glass hurricane shades. The glass shades are adorned with etched floral designs and striking red rims, characteristic of late 19th-century Bohemian glass often used in Russian export items for markets like Persia. Purchased from an antique gallery in Chicago around 2016, these pieces show signs of age with tarnish and oxidation on the brass interiors, consistent with their 130+ year history. One glass shade has a small chip at the bottom where it fits into the holder, and the brass exhibits a natural patina. Without formal provenance, the exact history is unverified, but the detailed markings strongly confirm their authenticity as late 19th-century Russian antiques. Perfect for collectors of Russian decorative arts or Victorian-era decor, these candle holders offer historical elegance with a traceable origin.
