The silver-tone holder still has a partial original sticker inside. Fascinating Fun Facts: • Tussie mussies were small bouquet holders popular from the late Victorian through Edwardian era, originally carried to mask odors and later used to convey messages through the language of flowers. • These holders were designed to keep stems upright while allowing airflow through the pierced sides, helping flowers last longer. • Silver-tone examples were often silverplate or white metal, while gold-tone versions were commonly gilt brass intended for decorative or formal use. • By the early 1900s, tussie mussies had shifted from daily accessories to ornamental objects, often displayed empty or used with dried florals.
