Japanese Ink Stones (Suzuri) And Ink Stick (Sumi) - Not Free

Japanese ink stones and ink sticks are traditional tools used in Shōdo (calligraphy) and Sumi-e (ink wash painting) to create liquid. Ink stone is used for grinding solid ink sticks with water to produce ink. They feature a flat surface ( yan tang) for grinding, and a slanted well (mo-chi) for holding the liquid. Ink stick is made from pine or vegetable oil soot, mixed with animal glue. Then dried and aged for several years. To prepare the ink, a small amount of water is placed in the well of the stone, and the ink stick is rubbed in slow circles, until the desired consistency is achieved.
