Description

I am selling an absolutely beautiful Japanese wedding kimono also called a “wedding robe”. It was gifted to me by friends, who said they bought it in Hawaii. Exquisite detail and craftsmanship in the design and sewing. Would be beautiful to display as a tapestry or wear as a ceremonial robe. The tag sewn into the neckline of the wedding robe reads: “ antique kimono/made in Japan/100% silk/dry, clean only“ (see photo). I have not obtained a formal appraisal, but I had a local kimono expert review photos. She is unable to verify the authenticity of the garment as “antique” and whether or not the fabric is 100% silk from the photos. This formal kimono known as a “wedding robe” is in excellent overall condition. The fabric is elegantly and intricately embroidered with some sequin embellishment. No rips, tears, or stains. There are a few, very small marks near the neckline which should be easily removed with cleaning. Asking $725 Some interesting history/notes on this type of garment: “UCHIKAKE Uchikake is a highly formal kimono worn only by a bride or at a stage performance. The Uchikake is often heavily brocaded and is supposed to be worn outside the actual kimono and obi, as a sort of coat. One therefore never ties the obi around the uchikake. It is supposed to trail along the floor, this is also why it is heavily padded along the hem. The uchikake of the bridal costume is either white or very colorful often with red as the base colour.”
