This statue depicts the Mother of Sheshan, the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus, a symbol of protection and intercession. At its base, a dragon symbolizes the triumph over evil, inspired by the Book of Revelation’s imagery of Mary as the "woman clothed with the sun" defeating the forces of darkness. This statue was purchased from a small artisan shop in China. It was carefully crafted in homage to the iconic statue atop the Sheshan Basilica and blessed during the annual pilgrimages that draw thousands. Each piece was created with reverence and devotion. Religious artifacts like this are becoming increasingly rare, especially from China, where the practice of Catholicism is now heavily restricted. The Sheshan Basilica, where this statue's design originates, remains one of the few active Catholic pilgrimage sites in the country, but public expressions of faith and the production of religious art have faced significant limitations in recent years.
