Vintage Original Marilyn Monroe Acrylic Painting. Shown is an original ‘Marilyn Monroe’ framed acrylic transfer on canvas by the self-taught artist, Thomas Van Housen. Pick up arrangements for your peace of mind will be made at the Naperville Police Station. The artwork measures approximately 36” x 24”; with black wood frame it measures approximately 37” x 25”. It is signed and dated 1995 on verso and in excellent condition. Artist’s Bio Thomas van Housen is an American self-taught artist known for mixing freehand painting with computer-designed graphic elements, laser toner transfers, serigraphy, and inkjet-on-canvas work He was born and raised in Syracuse, Nebraska, and graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1977 with a B.A. in Mathematics, with emphasis in Actuarial Science and Accounting After working as an actuary and executive search consultant, he left corporate life in 1990 to focus on painting and computer consulting His imagery draws from pop culture, science, personal inspiration, and commissioned subjects Career highlights Van Housen developed a distinctive process that releases laser toner from paper and layers it into hand-painted acrylics, which can give the works a silkscreen-like look He has also worked in acrylic, oil, traditional silkscreen, and digital photo-based prints on canvas Reported milestones include selling 41 paintings to RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1996, creating a Hale-Bopp comet series for the MacArthur Foundation in 1997, and selling many works through Chicago’s Gordon restaurant.
