Description

This letter is regarding the enlisted man Private Joesph Freeman who mustered into "G" Co. of the 11th Calvary. Discharged for disability on 3/1/1864 at Washington, D.C.  I believe he has some incorrect spelling as his handwriting is difficult and a lot of people could not fully read and write back then but it's transcribed as much as possible. He was promoted to Saddler Sgt in 1862. talk about rebels being as close as Culpepper VA Camp R? Washington August 24? 1863  Dear Neace? (as in niece)  Received your letter was glad to hear from you sorry  to hear of your father + mother have been so unwell  have not much news to write?  first now have not heard from bense you Rote my health is very good now  We have about fifty sick? in the Hospital now  The weather have been very warm   the thomater (thermometer) stud (stood) at 108 four or five days in the camp  Our Regiment is doing more service?, than every other in the field? At the present we are shouting all the time  The War Department just sent for 80 men to your ____  war in Virginia 200 men went away two weeks ago down the Potomac  half not returned yet I suppose you now the Rebels not far from Washington I hear they are at Culpepper i mean the Rebel army Don't expect this letter will interest you much and hardly now  what to right if you will excuse this one i try to do better  next time you must think I meant to write a letter where I comment but Broke down  right down from your _____ Joesph Freeman     Comes in a protector sleeve and backing board.
