Description
Levi's 501 White Oak Cone Denim Jeans Men's Size W38 X L34 Gray Wash Button Fly Jeans. SOLD AS-IS IN WRINKLED CONDITION OR ANY OTHER FLAWS SEEN. The color of Levi's 501 jeans can be described as a light or medium gray wash. The denim has a faded appearance. Cone Mills White Oak denim refers to the denim fabric produced at the historic White Oak plant by Cone Mills, which was a significant American textile manufacturer. The White Oak plant, located in Greensboro, North Carolina, operated for 112 years before closing its doors in 2017. The denim produced at this plant is highly regarded for its quality and distinctive characteristics, which are a result of being woven on vintage Draper X3 shuttle looms. These looms, rumored to "bounce" on the wooden floors of the mill, create small irregularities in the fabric, giving it a unique texture or "slubs." The White Oak plant was also known for producing selvage denim, which is a fabric with a clean, tightly woven edge that resists fraying. Cone Mills and Levi's had a long-standing partnership, with the White Oak plant becoming the exclusive producer of selvage denim for Levi's 501 jeans in 1915. This partnership, often called the "Golden Handshake," lasted for over a century until the mill's closure. In tribute to the end of this era, Levi's Vintage Clothing released limited- edition pieces made from the last of the White Oak denim. Jeans made from Cone Mills White Oak denim are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts today.
