The White Oak plant, located in Greensboro, North Carolina, operated for 112 years before closing its doors in 2017. The denim produced at this plant is highly regarded for its quality and distinctive characteristics, which are a result of being woven on vintage Draper X3 shuttle looms. These looms, rumored to "bounce" on the wooden floors of the mill, create small irregularities in the fabric, giving it a unique texture or "slubs." The White Oak plant was also known for producing selvage denim, which is a fabric with a clean, tightly woven edge that resists fraying. Cone Mills and Levi's had a long-standing partnership, with the White Oak plant becoming the exclusive producer of selvage denim for Levi's 501 jeans in 1915.
