Description
This is a 1977 Schwinn Volare that I've refurbed and is too big for me. 25"/63cm frame. They only made this model for two years (77-78) and it's nearly the same frame as a Paramount except it was made in Japan. Lugged, Reynolds 531 frame and fork. All original except for the saddle and brake hoods (and cables, tires, chain, etc). Full Shimano 1st generation Dura-Ace except for the rear derailleur which is Crane. Suntour freewheel. New vintage-style brake pads. I stripped everything down, cleaned, polished, and lubed everything. The chainrings and freewheel are in great shape and it's a nice ride, everything functions as well as it did in 1977. From 5 feet away the paint and chrome look amazing. Up close the paint is OK (see pics). There are some chips (mostly showing the chrome underneath) and spots that were touched up with a paint that's not quite the same shade. The chrome on the frame is decent, but it had little pinpoints of rust on most parts which I've taken care of. All of the little bits that were chromed- bolts, cable guides, things like that- haven't fared as well. They've been cleaned up and it's all working and presentable, just missing their chrome. The aluminum components look great. There are blemishes but for the age they look fantastic, still have that satin sheen. There is one small ding on the frame, I'm pointing at it in one of the photos, hard to see. It's a rare model, it's a really nice 531 frame, and it looks great. It's also not priced as a museum piece. *Bike is in Thousand Oaks.*
