Description

A self-contained collection of Late Pleistocene age seashells together with fossil crinoid columnal segments from the Middle Jurassic. The Pleistocene age shells were collected in California in the 1960s/1970s and date to approx. 11,000 years ago. The Crinoid "star" fossils date to approx. 174-163 million years ago and were collected in Southern Utah. The crinoid segments can be seen best by wiping a damp cloth over the matrix rock. This collection of ancient marine shells includes the following clams, snail shells, and fossil rocks: • Tresus species clam with with hardened oil seep deposit • Saxidomus species clam shell • Platyodon cancellatus clam • Veneridae species Venus clam shells • Mactridae species clam shell • Macoma species clam shell • Nassariidae snail shells • Jurassic age crinoid columnal segments - "crinoid stars" in matrix, with individual segments in a magnified top display cube.
