Description
Tyrell is a gritty young-adult novel about a fifteen-year-old boy from the Bronx who struggles to take care of his family after his father — a DJ with a history of drug dealing — is sent to prison for the third time. With his mother unreliable and his seven-year-old brother Troy depending on him, Tyrell and his family become homeless and are placed in a crowded, roach-infested shelter run by the city’s Emergency Assistance Unit. The novel offers a raw, realistic portrayal of urban hardship, responsibility, and resilience through the eyes of a teenager trying to do the right thing in impossible circumstances.
