Free! Dodge Charger/Challenger Center Bearing

Description

Free! This replaces the center drive shaft bearing for the models listed on the box. This is a 2 piece replacement- meaning if you can cut off the old one, you can put this one on- WITHOUT needing to remove the drive shaft and without needing access to a hydraulic press. I bought 2 incase I messed up on the first attempt or one didn’t seem good quality. They were both pretty much identical and the first went in fine- so this is a spare that I don’t need. I’m not a mechanic, but I do have experience with tools, I don’t have a lift, I don’t have low angle ramps, and my jack wouldn’t have been a safe option since the weight shifts when the old drive shaft bearing is removed- so I dug a long hole and parked over it. If you want a cheap and super effective way to replace a bad center bearing- this can save you at least $1000 in replacement parts and shop fees. There are videos online for how to replace these. I will say that I found it much easier to slide the 2nd half on after I slightly trimmed the rubber on the outer edge of the flat face where the two semicircles meet. This allows the 2nd metal half of the bearing to slide over that corner when combining the two without catching and twisting the rubber instead of going over the edge. I also used a tiny pry bar to help slide the metal over that edge during that step. This one has not been trimmed/altered in any way- totally new. The end result will be a slightly louder but more powerful drive shaft- because it eliminates the slop- however that also means more of the vibration noise transmits through the frame= slightly louder. Like I said- I’m not a mechanic, I’m just a chick who knows how to use tools and who didn’t want to spend nearly $2000 (parts and labor) to replace my husbands drive shaft at the shop with a new OEM drive shaft when only one portion was failing. So I convinced him to let me replace the bearing. He was not happy with the idea but he didn’t have much choice. To this day it works great! It has been a few months since I replaced it with no issues.
