Description

This stunning, diminutive pitcher or ewer is a superb example of Mid-Century Modern (MCM) Art Glass from the 1950s-1970s. While unsigned (common for many American studio pieces), its construction and pattern align perfectly with the high-quality standards and iconic designs of the Blenko Glass Company of West Virginia. 🔍 Our Conclusion: Why This is Blenko-Style This attribution is based on the combination of four defining characteristics, all present in this single piece, which were hallmarks of Blenko's production: 1. Swirl Optic Pattern: The body features distinct, raised ribs that gently spiral or twist up the entire form. The Swirl Optic pattern is one of Blenko’s most recognizable and collectible designs. 2. Hand-Applied Handle: The handle was not formed in the mold but was individually gathered and applied by the glassblower, as evidenced by the lack of seams and its separate attachment points to the body—a clear sign of expert hand-craftsmanship. 3. Rough Pontil Mark: The base features a noticeable pontil mark (a circular scar). This is the exact spot where the pontil rod was broken off, confirming the piece was finished by hand and not automated machinery. 4. Color and Texture: The glass displays a beautiful Aqua, Teal, or Light Blue-Green tint and contains small, inherent seed bubbles, which are consistent with the compositions and textures favored by Blenko in their MCM era designs. ✨ Details and Condition • Item: Small Ewer / Pitcher / Creamer • Height: Approximately 6.5 inches • Color: Desirable Aqua / Teal / Light Blue-Green • Condition: Excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs. Any minor tool marks or striations are inherent characteristics of the original, hand-blown production process.
