Description

My cousin was a Roman Priest that passed away. I inherited a lot of his things, and this was one of them. He went to school at the Vatican in Italy. And this is where he got this relic church of saint joseph- Antique Continental Filigree Reliquary Theca — Ex Velo & Ex Palio B.M.V., S. Joseph — Intact Episcopal Wax Seal A beautifully hand-worked silver/silver-gilt filigree reliquary, likely 19th century Continental European (Italian) workmanship, in the traditional theca-on-stand form with scrolling wirework, a crowning cross, and a glazed circular window. Inside, on a garnet-red silk ground bordered in seed-pearl trim, are two small relics with their original hand-lettered paper cedulae (identification labels): Ex Velo B.M.V. — a relic ex indumentis, from a veil associated with the Blessed Virgin Mary Ex Palio B.M.V. — from a mantle/pallium associated with the Blessed Virgin Mary S. Joseph Sp. — associated with St. Joseph, Sponsus (spouse of Mary) The reverse retains its intact red wax authentication seal, bound with silk cord in the traditional cross-pattern, over a numbered paper docket — clear evidence this piece was formally authenticated by ecclesiastical authority and never opened or tampered with. This unbroken seal is a significant point in favor of authenticity and adds real value for specialist collectors. The filigree stand shows honest age — a lovely aged patina to the silver and gilt scrollwork, consistent with a piece of this vintage that has been cherished and handled with devotion for well over a century. Condition: Seal fully intact and undisturbed. Filigree stand sound and stable with attractive natural tarnish/patina. Relics and labels present and legible under glass. A rare opportunity for collectors of ecclesiastical antiques, sacred art, or Catholic devotional items — genuine relic reliquaries with unbroken seals rarely come to market.
