Description

2 small and large Victorian / Eastlake-influenced carved settee (late 19th to early 20th century) Larger one - 49“ x 24“ x 38“ high Smaller one - 34 x 21” x 26” high Unbelievable find. From ChatGBT: It’s a small sofa or loveseat, typically used in parlors or entryways. These were common decorative furniture pieces during the late 1800s and early 1900s. ⸻ 1. Deep, Ornate Carving • The central crest features stylized foliage and scrollwork. • These motifs are typical of Victorian Rococo Revival or Eastlake Revival furniture. • The carving on yours is hand-carved, not pressed—good sign of quality. 2. Splayed Arms with Curled Ends • The curled or rolled hand supports point to late 19th-century influence. 3. Upholstered Back Panels • The two upholstered panels set into carved wooden frames were very common in settees from 1880–1910. • More affordable pieces from the time used this format instead of full upholstery. 4. Floral Tapestry Fabric • Likely not original. • The pattern looks mid-20th-century, so the piece was reupholstered at least once. 5. Cabriole-style front legs • Another Victorian element, though yours are more simplified than high-end Rococo pieces. ⸻ 📅 Estimated Age 1890–1910, give or take a decade. ⸻ 🪵 Likely Wood Probably walnut or mahogany, both common in American and European Victorian settees.
