Description

Must play this guitar to fully appreciate. Comes with Ephiphone case. Here is the full write-up from Mike & Mike’s when I bought it. A 2000 Epiphone by Gibson ES-335 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Produced at the Terada factory in Japan, this rare pre-Elitist Epiphone was made exclusively for the Japanese market. Not to be confused with lesser “Dot” iterations, this guitar features the Epiphone Japan-exclusive open book headstock shape. Crafted with exceptional fit and finish work, this guitar holds its own against its USA-made contemporaries. With the crisp attack of maple and the sweet, airy qualities of the semi-hollow body, the tonal range and detail of this guitar is exceptional, and the original PAF-style pickups cover a broad spectrum. Cut, sparkle, growl, richness, and warmth are all on tap, and each position on the three-way toggle has a distinct tone. The guitar weighs 8lbs 11oz, professionally setup with 10-46 strings, low action, and solid intonation. The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender '60s-style C-shaped profile carve with modest shoulder and a bit more overall heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .830” deep at the 1st fret and .935” at the 12th. The neck has a long tenon joint with a bound rosewood fretboard and stock slender fretwire. The frets are in great shape with their full factory height, showing only light wear exclusively beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-5, and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The guitar plays cleanly in every register up the straight neck with an ideally adjusted, responsive truss rod. The guitar conforms to traditional Gibson spec with a 24 3/4" scale length and a 1 11/16" wide carved bone nut. On the open book headstock, the original chrome Grover Rotomatic-style tuners turn very smoothly, and the "J" prefix stamped serial number denotes manufacture at the Terada factory. All of the electronics work exactly as intended, with a three-way pickup selector toggle and individual Volume and Tone controls for each humbucker wired to full-size Noble pots. All of the original plastic parts are present and clean, and the nickel hardware shows light surface patina, most notable on the ABR-1 and tailpiece. Plastics include the original quartet of black bonnet knobs and the four-ply pickguard. The guitar is very clean for an instrument that's two decades old, and the bold, rich Cherry gloss finish exhibits very light buckle rash central to the lower bout on the back, and some faint finish scratches and small nicks on the body, largely on the back and to a lesser extent behind the bridge on top. The neck finish is a smooth gloss on the profile, showing just a couple small dings central to the carve behind frets 8-10.
