Museum-Quality Bob Stocksdale Signed Hand-Turned Sapele Wood Platter Bowl - 12” Price: $1,650 Description: Available for acquisition is a highly prized, investment-grade mid-century studio craft masterwork: an authentic hand-turned exotic wood platter bowl by the legendary "Father of American Woodturning," Bob Stocksdale (1913–2003). This exceptional piece is masterfully turned from premium Sapele hardwood, displaying a brilliant, undulating ribbon-like grain that shifts beautifully in the light. Stocksdale's historic works are highly coveted by fine art collectors and are held in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Museum of Arts and Design. • Dimensions: Generous 12-inch diameter. Large-scale pieces over 10" are highly desirable and difficult to find in this immaculate condition. • Provenance & Authentication: Fully signed and inscribed by the artist on the underside with his signature script: "~ Bob Stocksdale ~" and the exotic wood origin "Sapele from Africa". Features a vintage paper lot/inventory sticker ("81") on the base. • Material: Premium African Sapele Hardwood • Design: Ultra-thin, perfectly balanced low-profile charger/platter bowl style Condition: Beautiful vintage condition. Based on the detailed close-up photos, the minor surface scuffs are purely superficial finish marks on the top layer of the varnish. They do not penetrate or damage the wood grain itself. The piece holds its magnificent original luster, with absolutely no cracks, deep gouges, chips, warping, or repairs. The original, hand-applied finish remains completely intact to preserve maximum historical and collector value, showing an authentic vintage patina that serious collectors prefer over a modern re-lacquering. A true statement piece of American design history, perfect for serious mid-century modern, studio craft, or fine art collections. Final sale: No returns or refunds. No holds; first come, first served. Local pickup only – Sonoma, CA. Cash only.
