Description
seventeenth century style carved oak armoire/wardrobe Profusely carved with guilloche and with foliate carved panels on a stipple ground, the lunette carved cornice above a frieze with carved initials G E M, below are a pair of triple panel doors, the base with a pair of panels, on bun feet. This impressive carved oak armoire or wardrobe appears from the images to be of nineteenth century date. The criteria can benefit from first hand inspection. During the nineteenth century there was a revival of interest in early oak furniture. It was not unusual to take components from original items in disrepair and remodel them with later sympathetically matched elements. There was a romanticism surrounding the style and it was not unusual to devote an entire room to these furnishings. It sometimes extended to matching architectural details and stained glass windows. DIMENSIONS Height 76 inch; Width 49 inch; Depth 21 inch
