Donnelly & Sons Company, recreated from a first Dunlap broadside printing of the Declaration of Independence. Printed on the back are the words: "FACSIMILE Reproduced by R.R. Donnelly & Sons Company, The Lakeside Press from the original owned by Ira G. Corn, Jr. and Joseph P. Driscoll" Original, red, embossed folder included with attached insert booklet containing the history and process of making this replica. Red folder has obtained wear and flaws as you can see in the photos. Attached booklet is in amazing condition. No rips, damage, stains, creases, etc. See photos. Also included is a thin, protective sheet that covers the replica Some additional info from the web: John Dunlap made the first copies of the Declaration of Independence on the night of July 4, 1776. One of the handful of surviving copies was purchased by Ira G. Corn, Jr. and Joseph P. Driscoll at auction for $404,000 in 1970, and facsimile copies were commissioned through the R.R. Donnelley Company. This is the most accurate facsimile of a Dunlap Broadside ever made. Every detail from the paper type to the type of printing was faithful to the original. Heavy Dutch chain laid paper was obtained from near the place of origin as Dunlap’s Dutch paper. The printing was on a hand letter press with heavy impressions as exact as possible to the original. The paper has the same chain lines (both horizontal and vertical) as the original. There is a slight wrinkle in the lower left corner, as on the original, the edges were die cut to the exact worn edges of the Dunlap original. Stains were replicated, age marks made, all exactly the original as it is today, even to the point of matching the back of the broadside to the original. The sheets were tinted front and back using Donnelley's DeepTone process to exactly match the original, and they were printed by letterpress to closely match Dunlap's presswork. The purpose of this facsimile was two-fold. First, the owners of the original commissioned it so that the document's "enjoyment could be more widespread." It is not known how many Donnelley printed, but none were printed for the general public and, as such, are scarce on the market. The Donnelley Broadside remains today the most accurate reproduction ever created from an original Dunlap and this piece would make a fine centerpiece to any American Revolution or Declaration collection. Item will be shipped safely, flat, in a box to prevent damage in transit. This is the finest and only facsimile ever made of any existing Dunlap broadside, recreated using the same paper and printing methods as the original and it would make a beautiful and important display piece and should be archivally framed in order to preserve Rare R R Donnelley Declaration of Independence Replica Facsmile 1970 Dunlap Huge white house presidential president america usa
