Description

I love this car. I purchased it used in 2011 with only 98k on it. It had some oil pan issues which I had fixed. U can look up the specs and it will say six cylinders and 5-speed manual, but you can switch between Auto and manual, very useful. It died Monday night. It had cooling problems for a while & I could only drive it locally. When I get home from my errands I pop the hood,& the following morning, usually most of a 16.9 Oz bottle of water to the radiator overflow tank. Mechanic told me not to take it on the freeway. Got struck in horrible traffic in Culver City at rush hour. The Red light came on and I pulled onto a side street immediately. Now the head gasket is blown. Plus the cooling issue & some of the sensors don't work. In order to pass my last smog test, I had to get a new catalytic converter & there are no OMEs available . I've been told the alt. parts will not last more than a few years . Occasionally the right rear flasher stops working and then it starts again. I can't explain that, maybe it's a loose bulb but I haven't got the time to fix it. Or a fuse, but this was my third Beamer and I was shocked when I found out I couldn't replace a fuse. It was missing one of the exterior rubber strips- in front, when I purchased it. I think I had a little brush in a Beverly Hills parking lot with an overly high parking curb that Disturbed the undercarriage and that may have been the source of the loss of the passenger side strip. There's a small crease on the driver side, from someone's lack of parking skills, barely visible unless you look at it from the right angle. My mechanic mostly buffed it out. One of the two grills in front is plastic and one is original. Someone stole the grill and I replaced it with a plastic one from china. You really can't tell the diff. All the quarter panels are fine although they may have some black scratches on them. Many of which are mysterious to me. As are the black scratches on the rear bumper which can only have happened on a spacious Side Street in Beverly Hills or in the spacious parking garage in Century City. (Assholes.) The driver side windshield wiper went wonky and so there's a black scratch on the post & a minor, barely visible scratch on the window itself. I don't know if it's enough to compromise the glass, although I do know that shock in glass is cumulative. ( my father's an engineer) The interior: the driver's side seat is now cracked but the passenger side seat is perfect because I almost never have any passengers and you can see that I have the original manual in that seat. It's not covering anything it's just so you can see it. There are a few interior trim pieces that have failed over time. I've included photos. Truth: the car is incredibly Dusty because I was caretaking for my father the better part of 4 days a week during the stay-at-home. And 4 days every other week for a couple of years after that. I've just hosed it off occasionally-- especially because the wind comes from the West& the windshield gets dusty. I did a real clean recently on both front& back windows. Most of the electric works. The seats move forward and back, but they don't tilt anymore. It's final death was Monday night or Tuesday morning. I went out to move the car to take the blue bin out & it wouldn't start and the battery light was on. Of course it was night & the battery is in the trunk so it took me two extension cords from the garage and the battery charger-- which of course has a broken handle-- & I set it up to charge slowly overnight. I got up in the morning to check it & the battery was still dead.. My contractor even prayed over it & tried to jump it-- but nada. If you have a used BMW battery or one you can cannibalize for the occasion, and you don't live too far away, you could probably drive it home-- but if you don't, it's a tow. I parked it outside the gate so I could take better pictures of it, but it's inside the gate now and would require a bit of a push to get down the driveway. Probably two guys. And I have to steer it. Because if you look at the pics you will see what a great driver I am. I have been parking my car about 2" out from my building for over 20 years. The BMW insignia from the trunk is missing. I don't know if it just fell off from age or if someone stole it. It's still handles beautifully. I would buy another Beamer in a heartbeat except that the 300 series chassis is now a couple of inches wider and that won't work. Yes, have the pink slip, as well as a log of all the work that has been done on the car since I bought it. I have a file I can give you & I can also give U the log as a Word doc for quick ref. I think I put the condition down as fair or poor. It's restorable and collectible but I'm restoring the downstairs unit of my duplex right now & can't put money into the car. Had 2 name a price but I'm flexible. Just make me an offer I can't refuse.
