Description

Original, vintage, authentic Japanese B2 (22.25”x28.625”) movie poster from the initial first release of the 1960 epic drama “Exodus” about the founding of Israel. It starred Paul Newman, Eva Marie Saint & Sal Mineo. This original, vintage unfolded & unrestored 1960 United Artists Japanese B2 poster (22.25”x28.625”) for Exodus is in very fine condition & displays quite well. The poster has some minor creases around the edges mostly in background area that does not impact images. There is a light fold of the upper left corner with a tiny tear near to the light fold. As is typical of many Japanese film posters, this excellent creative design features terrific images of the three stars & scenes from the film. Japanese film posters typically feature some of the very best artwork of a film’s stars that I have seen & are admired by collectors. Please see full-color images above. The film, directed by Otto Preminger, was a box office success. Sal Mineo was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar & received a Golden Globe for his role. The screenplay was adapted by Dalton Trumbo (who had been blacklisted in the McCarthy era from a Leon Uris novel. Preminger openly hired screenwriter Trumbo, who had been on the Hollywood blacklist for over a decade for being a communist & forced to work under assumed names. Together with “Spartacus” also written by Trumbo, “Exodus” is credited with ending the practice of blacklisting in the U.S. motion picture industry during the 1950s.
