Description
(Long post) My baby red eared slider is named Basil and he’s about 1 & 1/2 to 2 inches long. I originally got him from my dad and researched how to take care of aquatic turtles to take care of Basil to the best of my abilities. I got him hatchling formula pellets, a 10 gallon tank to live in, a dual UVB lamp for basking, basking dock, calcium blocks, water heater and thermometer, a fake plant decoration that he loves to sleep in, and I change his water out every week. One time he swallowed a rock (I put a layer of small gravel rocks on the bottom of his tank because I thought he was so small that he couldn’t swallow it) and I panicked and took him to urgent care. The vet did an x-ray to find the rock in him and also saw that he had pneumonia. Basil only weighs 10 grams but that’s including the weight of the small rock he swallowed. The vet prescribed him two medications in syringes and told me to give it to him every couple days which I did. Immediately after we came home from the vet I also took out all the gravel from the tank so he wouldn’t have to go through that again. I’ve gotten attached to him, sometimes I just sit quietly by his tank and watch him swim around, play with the plant decoration, bask on his dock and I feel like I could watch him for hours. The only reason why I’m giving him away is because the vet bill for him getting a health exam, x-ray, and his medications came out to $784 and even after I gave him his medication treatment he doesn’t seem to be getting better and he hasn’t passed the rock he ate yet. I used all my savings to pay the vet bill and I can’t afford to continue taking him to the vet although he needs it as I’m only 18 years old working part-time and in college. I am looking for someone to take care of my precious turtle who is knowledgeable in caring for sick aquatic turtles. I hope that someone out there can help him get better and grow into a healthy adult turtle 🐢🙏💚. I will also give the person who would like to take Basil under their wing all his supplies (water heater, water thermometer, 10 gallon tank, water conditioner, pong balls for playing, artificial plant, calcium blocks, food pellets, small feeding container, basking dock, mesh lid, dual UVB bulb lamp) for $140. If you don’t want the supplies, I can let you adopt Basil for $50 as a rehoming fee. Thank you for reading my story! :) TL;DR - I’m looking for someone experienced in caring for aquatic turtles to adopt my baby red eared slider, Basil, with pneumonia that has a rock in him from swallowing a piece of gravel a couple months ago. I can give him to his new care taker for $140 with all his supplies included or just Basil by himself for $50 💚
