Description
Antique Large Italian Amphora or Capasa Olive Oil Jug 16.5" Tall. antique Italian amphora or "capasa" from Puglia, a region in Southern Italy known for its ceramic craftsmanship. This type of vessel was traditionally used for storing and transporting liquids like wine, water, or olive oil. The one shown is a double-handled jug, often referred to as an amphora or "vummile". It's made of terracotta with a distinctive golden ochre or mustard-colored glaze, typical of Puglian ceramics. It has original cork. My grandmother put the felt pads on the bottom. There is a makers mark on the bottom, but I can't make out what it says, SEE PICTURES. There are 2 chips on top where cork goes, SEE PICTURES. There is a line down the one side. It's probably from a liquid that was poured out of the jug, SEE PICTURES. Some of the glazing is rubbed off on the one handle, SEE PICTURES. There is a tiny chip on the Glaze on the one side, SEE PICTURES. It is approximately 9 inches wide at its widest point. PLEASE CLOSELY LOOK AT ALL OF THE PICTURES AND ZOOM IN SO YOU CAN DECIDE THE CONDITION FOR YOURSELF BEFORE BUYING. I TRY TO BE DETAILED, BUT I MIGHT HAVE MISSED SOMETHING.
