The light blue color of the jersey is a throwback to the team's early days. The Lakers used blue uniforms as throwbacks in the 1996–97, 2003–04, and 2020–21 seasons to honor the franchise's history. The original blue and white color scheme was used after the team moved to Los Angeles in 1960, before the change to the well-known purple and gold in 1967.
