Acoustic Guitar 1979 Kay Model K475 Auditorium Size Acoustic Pro Setup Needs new Strings Plays Great! A really cool 1979 Vintage Kay Model K475 Doves Auditorium Size Acoustic Guitar. This guitar is well preserved. It has a Walnut laminated top with Mahogany back and sides. The brass frets are still in great shape. The original Kay logo is still on the headstock and you can see the Kay label inside the sound hole as well as an old store logo sticker next to it. Very cool. These guitars were found in my Kay catalogs starting in 1979 thru 1982. They were discontinued after that. Made in Korea and are of very high quality. I played this guitar is the shop where I bought it for about an hour. Very pleasant player that sounds really good. Heres some history on the Kay Company that I thought you might be interested in. Decline on Katz-era (1955–1968) After the retirement of Kuhrmeyer in 1955, the company was taken over by Sidney M. Katz. The product line of Kay was shifted toward electric musical instruments on demands, and in 1964, the company moved to a new factory in the Chicago area. In 1965 Katz sold Kay to Seeburg Corp. and he became the head of Seeburg's musical instrument division. In 1967, Kay was resold and merged with Valco, but dissolved in 1968 due to financial problems. Revive (1969–present) The assets of Kay/Valco were auctioned off in 1969. The upright bass and cello lines were sold to a new company formed by a previous Valco member, which has continued production. The Kay name (and some of its trademarks were acquired by Teisco importer, Weiss Music (W.M.I., Sol Weindling and Barry Hornstein), who put the Kay name on the Teisco products beginning in 1973, and continued on through the 1970s. In 1980, Tony Blair purchased the Kay trademark. Cool vintage guitar that is infinitely playable. Hard to find a vintage playable guitar today for under $300.00 today. Sorry no original case for this one but I pack Professionally to make sure your cool guitars show up safely either near or far. Sold as-is no returns as its vintage and used…however, I have been hand picking my customers instruments for close to 20 years now. They all loved the guitars I found for them. This cool Kay will certainly not be an exception. Thanks for checking out our cool guitars.
