Description

Selling this antique writing desk and bookshelf. This is from around 1920! It has slight issues like wood separation from some nails but only noticeable when taken apart. Needs some hardware repair to keep the glass windows on. But stay on when placed in location. Original glass and has the Humphrey Windman stamp on the inside of the desk portion. Breaks down into 4 or 5 parts for transport. Here’s a little about it: Humphrey Widman was a Detroit-based furniture manufacturer known primarily for its high-quality antique barrister (lawyer) stacking bookcases from the early 1900s. These pieces were designed to be portable and protect documents, making them popular with professionals. While many standard bookcases were made, the company also produced a rarer variation that incorporated a drop-front desk section within the stackable units, as you specified. These "desk over barrister bookcase" models typically feature: Material: Often crafted from solid or tiger oak (quartersawn oak), known for its distinctive grain pattern. Design: Sectional units that stack vertically, including a base, multiple glass-door bookcase sections (with flip-up or pull-out doors), and a specific section that opens into a functional desk surface. Condition: As antiques from the circa 1920s era, they are valued for their original condition and craftsmanship. These sell online for over $1200 or more and it being tiger oak makes it more valuable. Needs some hardware repair, but minor and if you know antique collectors you can make a big profit.
