Description
vintage piece is a classic example of traditional Indian Muslim headwear from the late 19th century, likely originating from Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow/Varanasi region) during the Nawabi/Mughal-influenced era. Hand-embroidered in luxurious zardozi technique using real or gold-polished silver bullion threads on rich red/maroon velvet. Key Features: • Dense, raised metallic embroidery with intricate paisley (buta/boteh), floral blooms, leaves, vines, and scrolling foliage motifs—hallmarks of high-end zardozi work from royal or elite courts. • Red velvet base fabric with gold/silver bullion couched in symmetrical patterns for a shimmering, opulent effect. • Oval/almond shape with pointed ends, typical of fitted skullcaps worn for prayer, ceremonies, or status (relaxed/folded in photos; may have been part of a structured cap). • Shows authentic age appropriate patina, minor tarnish on metal threads, and natural wear adds to its historical charm without major damage. This was gifted to my uncle by Amon G. Carter (prominent Texas figure and founder of the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth), adding unique Texas collector interest.
