Description
Another item from our online estate sale. According to online auction sites, this is an antique English Victorian balloon-back mahogany side chair. According to those same sites, the chair was most likely made in the 1860s. Unfortunately, the chair itself does not have any manufacturer stamp or other information. This chair has been part of our family's home furnishings since the 1950s, however, no one in the family knows its history. The front legs are hand-turned spindle style; the back legs are straight. Not the original upholstery. It appears to have been professionally re-upholstered in the 1960s. Dimensions: 35 inches high x 18 inches wide (19 inches from the ground to the top of the seat) Wood type: Mahogany Manufacturer: Unknown Upholstery: unknown fabric, jute webbing, black wool stuffing. Condition: Fair (solid construction, needs refinishing and re-upholstery, slight gaps in wood joints of the backrest). Will ship to anywhere in the United States for extra fee. When part of a dining room chair set, these sell for thousands of dollars at auction houses. When sold individually (in very good condition), they sell for more than $350/each. This chair is priced to sell quickly.
