Description

SPECIFICATIONS: Model: Aria Pro II Cardinal Series CS-350 Year of Manufacture: 1981, Japan (Matsumoku) Body: Shape similar to Gibson SG; Ash; Seafoam Green finish Neck: Bolt-on, 3-piece maple; Seafoam Green headstock; Rosewood fingerboard Scale Length: 629 mm Frets: 22 Pickups: 2 Protomatic V (MMK-45) humbuckers Controls: 2 Volume knobs; 2 “Single/Humbucker/Tone” balance knobs; 3-way pickup selector switch; “Phase/Out-of-Phase” switch Bridge: Die Cast (Ray) through-body, chrome Tuners: Aria Pro II, chrome Overall Condition: Used, excellent condition Among the non-standard circuit design features, the individual Single/Humbucker balance controls for each pickup are particularly noteworthy. These controls work as follows: Each pickup’s output constantly carries a signal from only one of its coils. When the balance knob is turned fully to one side, the signal from the second coil is completely disconnected — in this position, the pickup operates in single-coil mode (the familiar coil-split configuration). As the knob is turned away from this extreme position, the signal from the second coil gradually blends in with the first, allowing the player to smoothly adjust the contribution of the second coil from zero to full strength. When both coils output signals of equal level, the pickup operates in humbucker mode. All intermediate knob positions produce tonal variations that are unavailable on most other guitars. When the humbucker mode is fully engaged, the knob rests in a center-detent position. Rotating it further adjusts the tone of the humbucker signal, reducing the amount of high frequencies. The “Phase / Out-of-Phase” switch changes the polarity of the bridge pickup’s coils (the one near the tailpiece) and, in single-coil mode, also switches which coil is active.
