  I drove over an hour to visit this location after seeing Steelcase Leap floor models listed online at $299 with multiple units supposedly available. When I called, I was told those were not available and that chairs were actually $350–$400. That immediately felt misleading. The employee who helped me, Rudy, was polite and friendly, and I appreciate that. However, the chairs themselves were a different story. Every Leap chair I tested had some issue — stained fabric, sticky armrests, worn mechanisms, or parts that didn’t function correctly. Concerns were often dismissed as “normal,” even when something clearly felt wrong. What added to the confusion was how these were described as “floor models.” The store is not a certified Steelcase retailer, and explanations about where these chairs come from and what “floor model” means were unclear. There is also no warranty, which makes buying a chair with visible wear or mechanical issues a significant risk. I was still prepared to purchase one of the chairs until checkout, when I was told there would be an additional 3% fee for Visa/MasterCard and 4.5% for Amex. This was never disclosed beforehand. After already driving a long distance and spending time inspecting chairs, being hit with a surprise fee felt like the last straw. The selection is large and the staff is friendly, but buyers should understand they are purchasing used/as-is inventory with no warranty and potential added fees at checkout. Inspect everything carefully and ask detailed questions before committing. In addition, businesses in Florida are permitted to add credit card surcharges, but there are clear rules governing how this must be done. Surcharges must be disclosed clearly before payment and typically may not exceed 4% of the transaction amount under card network rules. In this case, there was no visible signage or prior disclosure of the surcharge, and I was told it would be 3% for Visa/MasterCard and 4.5% for American Express. A 4.5% fee appears to exceed standard limits, and presenting it only at checkout raises concerns about compliance and transparency. Calling it a “convenience fee” does not change the fact that in-store credit card use is a standard payment method, not a special convenience service. If a business chooses to pass processing costs directly to customers, it should do so transparently and within established guidelines.
