Did you know that reviews are REAL and truly share customer satisfaction? There is a reason why Baldwin Auto Sales has 3.4 stars overall and why I chose to leave a 1-star review (of which, I never do) due to lack of transparency and misrepresentation of the car that we purchased. On June 15, 2026 we purchased a used vehicle from Baldwin Auto Sales, a family-owned business for over 50+ years; a father and two sons, John & Don. You would hope with this track record, you would work with a used car dealership that was transparent and trustworthy. We purchased a used 2020 vehicle for our 16 year old daughter who was very excited and we wanted to be sure it was a safe, FIRST vehicle chose for her. We reviewed the history report of the vehicle that appeared to be clean. We were told the car was in good condition with no issues, however, after purchasing the car and taking it to a local, trusted mechanic we've used for over 20 years, it appeared to have major electrical issues. Before purchase of the car, my 16 year old inquired as to why the trunk button didn't work in the car when we test drove the car. Baldwin stated they didn't realize it wasn't working and simply said, "That's an easy fix." I proceeded to request a reduction of $1,000 from the purchase price and he just smirked at me and said, 'No, we don't reduce the price." I then tried to request $500 which then translated into a $200 agreed reduction in price. BALDWIN TOLD US IT WAS A 'EASY FIX" WHEN OUR MECHANIC FOUND IT NEEDS A FULL REPLACEMENT. IN MY OPINION, THEY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN. The dealership purchased the vehicle from an auction and I believe received a full evaluation as the dealership wants full transparency of a car they are going to resell. In my opinion, the dealership was well-aware of this 'electrical' issue which was first questioned regarding the trunk button. After taking it to our trusted mechanic on June 24th and evaluating for several days until July 2nd, 2026, along with a full diagnostic, error codes magically appeared that were NOT present during the test drive or discussed by Baldwin (see attached images). I would have never purchased the car if error codes were appearing during the test drive. The error codes included: > Collision mitigation - braking system problem - SEE YOUR DEALER >Auto high-beam problem - manual controls available - SEE YOUR DEALER > Adaptive cruise control system problem - SEE YOUR DEALER In my opinion, the dealership was dishonest and cleared the diagnostic trouble codes before selling the car to hide underlying issues. The underlying issues are all electrical-related tied to the trunk button, overhead lights, third break light, interior outlets, and much more. The 'quick' fix to repair the trunk button actually requires a full unit replacement and Baldwin never disclosed this. My gut told me to not proceed with the purchase but when you have a 16 year old thrilled for her first car, it makes it more challenging. The more concerning wrinkle at hand is that there were more serious electrical issues beyond the trunk button. None of the electrical outlets were working, overhead lights, and third break light (which is required to work for our daughter's driving exam). Lesson-learned - I highly recommend not purchasing from this dealership. Something that was an easy fix was not! We paid nearly $865 (see attached invoice) to adjust some simple electrical issues, however, the trunk button would need a full replacement costing over $1,000 AND we are still trying to get the third back breaklight to work as this is a requirement by the CA DMV in order to use a vehicle for your driver's test. It's extremely disappointing that the car we purchased has these electrical issues and may possibly not be able to be used for her driver's license test at the end of the month. If you plan to purchase a used vehicle, bring an OBD2 scanner to check the vehicle and a strong suggestion to purchase certified-owned as it's less risk. It's unfortunate that businesses can break your trust. Reviews matter & trust your gut.
Bought a gorgeous Lexus 430SC from this wonderful dealership. Don Baldwin made the whole process so easy from start to finish. No haggling, easy financing, very straightforward. He even picked me up from the train station when I came to get it. I would highly recommend this dealership if you are looking for a vehicle.
Our experience in working with Don was great! They have a wide selection of cars to choose from. His Dad told me that they never buy cars from auction and that he personally inspects every car before buying it. And it shows in all of the cars on the lot. Customer service was great. I love supporting a good family business as well. There was no hard selling, just friendly and helpful service. I would buy from them again!
