Description

Beautiful woodblock print by Kaoru Kawano that is pencil signed and has the red seal. The piece is titled “Two girls.” This is an authentic original woodblock. Print measures approx 11” x 16 3/8” Frame measures 14” x 19.5” KAWANO, KAORU (JAPANESE, 1 Kaoru Kawano was a woodblock print artist who worked during the Showa period (1(contact info removed)). Born in Hokkaido in 1916, Kawano studied at Kawabata Art School during the 1930s. He gained an international reputation through successful solo exhibitions in North America and elsewhere. His prints frequently depict children and animals, combining Western-style elements with the tradition of woodblock printmaking. Kawano’s works are also appreciated for the way in which they incorporate the woodgrain of the block into the design.
