Description
The Story Behind the Piece This is not a mass-manufactured piece of home decor. This 3-light tealight holder is the very first artifact to emerge from a new, independent workshop in Central Ohio focused on transforming historic, forgotten materials into functional art. The wood for this piece was pulled directly from a structural renovation of an 1880s farmhouse in Central Ohio. For nearly 140 years, this oak stud held up a piece of Ohio’s agricultural history. Today, it has been given a second life. Because this material has already lived a full life, it carries unique visual signatures of its past— rugged sawmill marks, ancient nail paths, and deep grain character that make it entirely one-of-a-kind. Note: Each piece is unique and may vary slightly from the pictures in the post. The Process & Craft Built with a rigorous commitment to a zero-footprint and zero-waste process, this holder was crafted in a completely solar-powered workshop by an individual craftsman. Cut, drilled, sanded and finished over a multiple days, it's ready for you home, shop or restaurant. Three tealights included. Dimensions: 9.5" Long x 3.75" Wide x 1.75" High Capacity: Holds 3 standard tealight candles (1.5" diameter) The Finish: Treated with a handmade, in-house, non-toxic iron acetate solution that reacts chemically with the natural tannins of the old oak, creating a stunning, deep charcoal-brown. It is sealed with multiple coats of tung oil to bring out the incredible depth of the grain, leaving a smooth, tactile satin finish. Bring a piece of 19th-century history and disciplined modern craftsmanship into your space. Makes a fantastic, unique gift.
