Description

Selling an authentic, meticulously preserved 1969 Trail Horse GTO 100 survivor mini bike. Built by General Appliance, this bike features a stunning natural patina, retaining roughly 40% to 50% of its rare original factory metallic green paint. The remaining frame areas were stripped to bare metal by a previous owner, creating an awesome, high-contrast industrial look. The entire chassis was carefully saved from layers of old yellow overspray using lacquer thinner to protect and lock in the original factory finish beneath a smooth, protective satin clear coat. Strictly zero frame modifications or modern holes drilled—every single custom component was hand-engineered to adapt to the original 1969 chassis to protect its collector value. Engine & Drivetrain (Fully Refreshed & Tuned): • Motor: 1978 Tecumseh HS50 5 HP small-frame flathead (Factory Sears/Craftsman model 143.665082). Completely gone through internally, timed, and painted silver to match the era. • Carburetion: Brand new carburetor, completely retuned and optimized. • Throttle System: Since this HS50 block originally powered a utility machine, a custom-fabricated throttle linkage system was hand-built with a robust custom metal anchor bracket to adapt the carburetor directly to the twist-throttle handle for crisp, snappy acceleration. • Top End: Freshly installed new head gasket for optimum compression. • Ignition: Flywheel pulled, brand new flywheel key installed, and ignition points fully cleaned and precisely re-gapped to factory .020" spec. Fitted with a non-resistor Champion J19LM spark plug for a hot, perfectly timed spark. • Exhaust: Custom homemade straight-pipe exhaust fabricated from heavy-duty black steel. • Drivetrain: Brand new 12T heavy-duty clutch paired to a brand new drive chain and a period-correct aftermarket chain guard. • Sprocket: Most likely the original 72T rear sprocket, establishing an optimized 6.0:1 final drive ratio. • Performance: Fantastic low-end torque with a verified, clocked top speed of 24 mph. • Fluids & Fuel: Fresh oil service using high-zinc Shell Rotella T4 Heavy Duty 15W-40 oil to protect the flat-tappet cam. Run exclusively on 93 octane pump gas treated with Ethanol Shield stabilizer. Wheels, Brakes & Components: • Wheels: Highly coveted original factory turbine split-rim wheels. • Tires & Tubes: Period-correct stance featuring an authentic sawtooth tread tire on the front for precise steering tracking and a heavy diamond stud tread tire on the rear for traction. Both tires show vintage dry rot/weather checking matching the bike's age, but they hold air perfectly due to inner tubes (left original to preserve the survivor look). • Brakes: Features the original rear brake drum hub, upgraded with a brand new heavy-duty brake band, a new brake handle, and a new vintage-style brake cable for excellent stopping power. • Kickstand: Rare original factory kickstand is intact, straight, and fully functional. • Cockpit: Brand new vintage-looking twist throttle, period-correct ribbed rubber barrel foot pegs with polished chrome end caps, and a new frame-mounted toggle kill switch located out of the way on top of the frame rails. Bodywork & Seating: • Seating: Brand new, premium black 17.5-inch diamond-stitch bench seat. Custom-modified on the underbelly with wood block fillers and countersunk hardware to fit perfectly flat along the factory top rails without altering the original metal. • Fenders: Factory original front fender. Missing rear fender. This is a turn-key, highly documented, and incredibly responsive vintage mini bike that perfectly balances raw garage craftsmanship with historical preservation. Starts, idles, and pulls beautifully. Local delivery available.
