Ceremonial Turtle & Eagle Obsidian Axe/5-hole Wind Instrument

Additional images

Description

This ceremonial obsidian axe is also a unique and colorful 5-hole musical instrument, belonging to the wind and woodwind category of musical instruments. Made from polymer clay, it features a lacquered finish with deep, bold colors and beautiful stone embellishments. Mounted on this rare find is a figure with human features wearing the skull and beak of an eagle and having a tortoise shell covering his lower half. IMPORTANT** ***Native-INSPIRED** contemporary art. The reason for this distinction is simply because there is no documentation of proof in regards to the identity of the artist who created this remarkable piece...I could find no apparent signature, mark or symbol of any kind which could shed light on who created the work, or of tribal affiliation. With no certificate of authenticity or similar documentation to lend proof to the artist's heritage, I won't advertise a piece as 'handmade by native tribal artisan', though I do believe it to be. The artist who brought this beautiful, meaningful piece to life reveals a profound understanding of the importance of symbolism & its meaning, along with a deep, abiding respect for the traditions, beliefs & cultural heritage of these remarkable people, the indigenous tribes of the South Americas. ***Please read the description fully and view all the pictures as they are all part of the description. ***One of the feet, and a piece of the collar are broken off. I've tried to show this in the photos. These defects have no effect on the sound or functionality of the instrument. Price adjusted for the minor damages.
