Description

Meet a legend of 80s Japanese hi-fi. The Luxman KX-101, built in Japan 1982–1984, is famous for its “suckface”, a motorized front panel that glides in and hides the controls. Yes, it works, and it’s even cooler in person. Luxman has been crafting audio gear in Osaka since 1925 and is still loved for its warm, rich, musical sound. This deck delivers exactly that. What’s been done: • ~80% of electronic components replaced • Brand-new motor installed • Mechanism fully serviced Features: • Playback sounds excellent: deep, smooth, alive • FF/REW, pause, memory counter all working • Sendust head, Dolby B/C, Type I/II/IV (metal) tape • Bias fine-tune, mic inputs Honest note: recording works, but the left channel adds white noise that gets recorded onto the tape. Careful balance and level adjustment reduces it, but it doesn’t fully go away. If you’re playing pre-recorded tapes, this doesn’t affect you at all. It only matters if you want to make your own recordings. Playback works beautifully. That’s why it’s priced at $299: a great deck for your tape collection, at a fair price for a rare piece. Cosmetics: normal signs of age, light scuffs and wear. See photos. A rare, head-turning statement piece for your vintage setup. PLEASE READ BEFORE BUYING : I’m a private seller, not a store. Restoring vintage audio is my passion, and I work with professional test equipment. Every unit leaves my hands fully working. Local buyers are welcome to come and test it in person before paying. For shipped items, I record a detailed video test before sending it out. Shipping: I pack every item carefully and securely, but I’m not responsible for damage or loss caused by the shipping carrier. If I create the shipping label myself, the package is insured. If shipping is done through Facebook’s shipping option, I don’t add extra insurance. Extra protection packaging: If you’d like special packaging, such as double boxing or extra wrapping, I can provide it for an additional $10. Just let me know before purchase. Please keep in mind: this is used vintage equipment, on average around 40 years old. It is sold as-is, with no warranty. I can’t predict how long any vintage component will last, and I don’t offer guarantees on future performance. All sales are final, no returns. That’s why I encourage in-person testing or a video test before shipping. Please find and read the user manual online before using the audio gear for the first time. If you have any questions, feel free to ask before buying. Thank you!
