RARE Lantern Shape VTG Handmade Tooled floral painted Leather Purse Bag wt clasp

Vintage handcrafted tooled leather purse, famously designed in the shape of a Lantern or Pot. These novel, sculptural structured bags were primarily crafted as artisan tourist souvenirs or folk art pieces during the mid-20th century, often originating from regions noted for traditional leather crafting. Often called Chinese gift baskets as per Google. I believe this one to be from Japan. They feature multi-paneled rigid leather walls, hand-painted or hand-tooled floral accents, a matching top handle strap, and a fitted lid that opens up to reveal the hollow interior compartment where the treasured gift would nestle. Closes with gold tone twist clasp, thought to be brass.
