A striking stenciled Windsor rocking chair by Nichols & Stone Co. of Gardner, Massachusetts — one of America’s most storied Windsor chair makers, with roots going back to the 19th century. This is a high-quality example in excellent condition, featuring the maker’s brand stamped into the underside of the seat. The wide crest rail is decorated with a classic stenciled urn-and-floral motif with scrolling vines, carried through to the front seat rail and armrests. The saddle seat is deeply contoured for comfort. Turned legs, stretchers, and elegant curved rockers complete the piece. Constructed of solid maple wood with a warm brown finish, it’s extremely well-made.
