Description

DC Detective Comics 31, 1937 Coverless, Offered is an original surviving copy/portion of Detective Comics #31, published by DC/National in 1939, only months after Batman's first appearance in Detective Comics #27. This is one of the most important early Batman issues and features the classic story commonly known as “Batman Versus the Vampire – Part One.” Key collector significance includes: Very early Batman appearance First appearance of The Monk First appearance of Julie Madison First appearance/use of the Batarang First appearance of the Batgyro, an early predecessor to the Batplane Classic early Batman artwork credited to Bob Kane Published in 1939 – Golden Age of Comics CONDITION This is an extremely low-grade, coverless and distressed original copy. The original outer cover is not present. Condition issues include substantial age toning/browning, brittle paper, tears, heavy edge chipping, missing pieces, creasing, staining and other age-related deterioration. Several areas of the artwork and margins have paper loss. The Batman splash/title page shown in the photographs is present and remains highly recognizable with strong original color despite the condition. Completeness has not been professionally verified. This listing should be considered coverless/incomplete unless otherwise confirmed by the photographs. No restoration, cleaning, pressing, taping or repairs have been attempted. Because the paper is approximately 87 years old and extremely fragile, the comic will be handled and packaged with exceptional care. Please examine all photographs closely. Sold AS-IS as an original unrestored Golden Age collectible. An exceptionally rare opportunity to own an affordable surviving example of one of the most desirable pre-Robin Batman comics.
