MATTRESS DETAILED DESCRIPTION [from the mattressnerd wesbite] The Avocado Green Standard Mattress is a hybrid mattress made from both latex foam and pocketed coils. The bed is handmade in Los Angeles, California by Avocado Green Brands and features organic and natural sustainably sourced materials. The mattress is approximately 11 inches thick and the company rates it as a medium in firmness. The bed contains 6 different layers, starting with the uppermost comfort layer. This layer is composed of three inches of Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) certified latex foam covered in Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified organic wool. The latex has been perforated for increased breathability. Latex is known to absorb less heat than memory foam, making latex a better material for people who sleep hot. The comfort layer is naturally fire retardant. The transition layer is made from organic hemp fiber that provides a buffer between the latex foam and the bed’s support layer. The support layer is made from pocketed coils. Because they’re pocketed, these coils may slightly reduce motion transfer and increase edge support. The eco-INSTITUT certified the bed for having low production pollutants and emissions. OEKO-TEX Standard 100: Class I certification applies to the entire mattress — not just the cover or latex. Class I is the highest safety classification, originally designed for products used by babies and toddlers. Every Avocado mattress, pillow, and topper meets it. Avocado is the first U.S. innerspring mattress brand to hold this certification (Jan. 2026). They also publish comprehensive PFAS test results — 679 substances screened at parts-per-billion sensitivity, none detected.
