Many only use 2 of 4 slots in their iMac. Upgrade to be able to run more tasks at the same time. Sometimes, more ram helps the system boot and login faster since the pc does multiple processes when booting and logging in, at least thats been my experience upgrading my macbook’s ram. $5 for 4GB, 8GB sold out
