Description
Vintage Johnson Farebox Model D – 1930s–1940s Transit Coin Collector Really unique piece of transportation history — this is a vintage Johnson Farebox, identified as a Model D, likely dating back to the 1930s–1940s. These were used on public transit buses and trolleys to collect and count passenger fares. Riders would drop coins into the top, and the internal mechanism would register the fare while keeping it secure. The glass upper section allowed drivers to visually confirm payment, and some models included a tamper indicator ball to prevent fraud — you can still see parts of that mechanism inside. Stamped “1527” on the front, with its original green painted body and brass/copper trim, this piece has amazing industrial character and patina. Whether you’re a collector, into transportation memorabilia, or just want a killer conversation piece, this is one of those items that tells a story the second you see it.
