BUYER BEWARE

My elderly mother purchased a 2015 Subaru Outback from Prime Time Auto in Martinsville to use during her retirement. Before buying it, she specifically asked the salesman, “Would you sell this car to your own grandmother?” He told her he would. Unfortunately, that statement could not have been further from our experience.

Shortly after the purchase, we discovered that the vehicle had numerous major mechanical problems. We took it to a trusted local mechanic, owho found that it needed the following repairs:

* Rear main seal
* Transmission pan gasket
* Valve cover gasket
* Complete exhaust system

The estimated cost for those repairs alone is between $5,000 and $6,000.

In addition, the vehicle needs struts, sway bar links, brakes, and an oil change, with an additional estimate of approximately $3,200.

When my mother called Prime Time Auto to ask for help, she was told they could not do anything for her, and the call was ended. When I called back simply requesting a copy of the Carfax report that had been shown to her during the sale, I was told that my mother was “just talking trash.”

What makes this experience even more upsetting is that other customers have described similar problems, including vehicles with serious issues underneath them. The Better Business Bureau website also contains several extremely negative reviews, but customers have to dig to find them—something my mother did not know she needed to do.

My mother is an elderly woman living on a fixed income who believed she was purchasing a dependable vehicle for her retirement. Instead, she was left facing thousands of dollars in unexpected repairs and was treated dismissively when she asked the dealership for help.

Please do your research, obtain an independent inspection before purchasing, and think very carefully before buying a vehicle from this dealership. If you have elderly parents or grandparents shopping for a car, please accompany them and help them thoroughly investigate the vehicle and dealership.

We certainly wish we had.

I purchased a 2014 GMC Terrain SLT from this dealership on February 4th, 2026. It had about 97,000 miles and cost me $6,000 plus taxes and fees. They disclosed rust on the rocker panels and had me sign a rust waiver, but they never mentioned anything about the frame — which turned out to be the real danger.

Within a couple of weeks, the vehicle felt so unstable that I took it to a mechanic. It bobbed and swayed all over the road, and during a highway drive I gripped the wheel so tightly trying to keep it straight that I ended up with blisters on my hands. I honestly felt unsafe and worried something serious might happen.

My mechanic — who has 30 years of experience — inspected it and was concerned about the underbody but thought it should be okay. I spent $1,800 on parts for new suspension components and brakes, and he began the repairs. That’s when the truth came out.

The frame was completely rotted out. The suspension mounting point crumbled off the frame when he tried to reconnect it. Both the mechanics I had look at it told me they had never seen a frame this bad on a vehicle this new. They said the only way this level of damage happens is if the vehicle was in a flood or sat in tall, wet grass for years. This was not normal rust. This was catastrophic structural failure.

The vehicle is now a total loss. It has been sitting at my mechanic’s house for six weeks because it is unsafe and undrivable.

I contacted the dealership — no call back. I sent an email — no response. They simply sold me a dangerous vehicle and walked away.

This ended up being an $8,500 loss once you include the parts I purchased. In today’s economy, that kind of hit is devastating. I paid for this vehicle outright and now it’s nothing but scrap.

I’m posting this review because I don’t want anyone else to go through what I did. A rust waiver should not be used to justify selling vehicles with severe frame rot that could put someone’s life at risk.

Please be extremely cautious if you’re considering buying a vehicle here.

I recently purchased a Jeep. Billy was the sales associate who assisted me. He was kind and helpful. Answered all of my questions. I never felt rushed or pushed into something I wasn’t comfortable with. Billy did what I asked and stayed honest.

The vehicle I purchased was in really good shape. Had a bit of surface rust underneath (common for jeeps) but was otherwise in great condition. Low mileage for the year. I noticed a fluid leak in the rear of the vehicle. Prime Time Auto Sales on-staff mechanic inspected and replaced the seals at no cost to me in a timely manner, which solved the issue. All in all, I had a good experience with this auto dealer.

RUN! This place should be out of business and sells completely unsafe cars that are in need of major repairs. They purchase all of their cars from auctions and have no idea if they are safe to drive. There is no mechanic on staff, just used car salesman. We literally told them we were looking for a safe car for our 16 year old daughter to drive and specifically mentioned all of the reviews about the rust, which they lied and said there were no issues with that. After purchasing the car for our daughter, we noticed the breaks were awful (not a big deal, we were fine to replace brakes). After taking the car to our mechanic, he was SHOCKED anyone would sell the car in such unsafe conditions. He said nobody should be driving the car, as it had severe rust underneath. It needed over $3,000 in repairs to even be safe to put back on the road. I will be filing complaints with the better business bureau as well as the AG, as this company is completely negligent and taking peoples money for an unsafe product. DO NOT buy from this place!!!!

Sorry folks I bought a 2014 chev.4door double cab4×4 from them back in 11-7-2024.An have had no mechanical issues! Although it did have a little surface rust on the rocker panels. What do you expect it's a chevrolet.Lol.It only had about 100,000 miles an on mechanically good truck. Although it does need rocker panels on it now!!!
