Description
Rooted and fast growing. As winter is approaching, my mother plant is turning crispy and drying up at the top oldest leaves. It is preparing for dormancy for the winter. Friendly reminder to expect the same for yours. Best advice is to keep it inside for now in a humid place, like your bathroom and make sure there’s some daylight in your bathroom. This plant is completely PET SAFE! So yes feel free to bring it inside. Here’s some further info from Google: • Cold and Temperature Stress: Lemon balm is sensitive to sudden drops in temperature. Chilly air or early frost can shock the foliage, causing the edges or entire leaves to dry out and crisp. • Drier Air: As the weather cools—especially if you bring a potted plant indoors near heating vents or experience dry autumn winds—low humidity causes moisture to evaporate from the leaves faster than the plant can replace it. • Slower Water Uptake: Cooler soil temperatures slow down root activity. Even if you water on a regular schedule, the roots absorb water less efficiently, leading to dry, crunchy leaf tips. • Natural Dieback: Lemon balm is a perennial that naturally slows down or dies back to the ground when winter approaches. The older, outer growth often shrivels first as the plant redirects energy to its roots Important Considerations for Pet Owners • Mild Stomach Upset: Even though it is non-toxic, if your pet decides to eat a large quantity of the crispy leaves, the excess fiber can still trigger mild, temporary stomach irritation, drooling, or vomiting.
