Antique 19thC Surveyor Staff Wood Case – Primitive Farmhouse Decor Collectable

Up for sale is a fantastic, authentic mid-to-late 19th-century primitive wooden transport case originally built to house a surveyor's 3 ½ foot leveling staff. This heavy, rustic pine/walnut box features an incredible aged patina, perfect for collectors of vintage industrial engineering equipment or anyone looking for a unique piece of country farmhouse decor. The box features a striking, continuous tapered design and classic mitered corners. It is constructed entirely with period-correct square-cut iron nails and retains its original dark oxidized finish. The top face features crisp, original stenciled text reading ""3 1/2 FT. STAFF"" alongside historical owner/department initials ""I.M."" stamped near the top lip. The front trunk panel swings open smoothly on its original iron hinges and is held securely by its primitive bottom latch. While the original surveying rod is no longer inside, the empty longcase makes a phenomenal standalone accent piece, umbrella stand, or rustic corner display.
