Description
Name: Lovers of the Sun Artist: Henry Scott Tuke (English) Year: 1923 Dimensions: 25” x 34” framed print It is with a deep & heavy heart that I must part with this masterpiece. For years, “Lovers of the Sun” hung proudly above our bed, guiding us gently towards soporific bliss. Each night as I drifted into the cradling arms of Morpheus, visions of heroically hairless men a-glittered in ocean droplets would welcome me to their seaside hideaway where we’d cavort about on the silky sand, drink in the carefree innocence of our bareness, and surf on the backs of friendly porpoises until a crimson-and-gold sunset quieted our souls. …at least that was my relationship with this artwork. My husband, on the other hand, thinks otherwise. Something about how “Lovers of the Sun” threatens his masculinity and prevents him from carrying out the biological imperative. He prefers a harem of sea nymphs, not a heapful of sea men. If you have an empty wall in your home & a partner who isn’t so hetero-inflexible about art, then c’mon down to Danville town for “Lovers of the Sun”! About the artist: Henry Scott Tuke lived in Cornwall, England where he befriended many of the town’s young fisherman, often asking them to pose as models for his paintings. (It’s not what you think) Mr. Tuke was also a good friend of Oscar Wilde. (It’s probably not what you think) Elton John owns a vast collection of Tuke’s paintings. (It is what you think)
